Website for doctors: price, pages and example
A website for doctors and GP practices is first of all there for your own patients: phone hours, opening hours, holiday closures, booking and e-consultations, and who to call out of hours. Here are the pages, the price, the rules and an example front page.
What should a website for doctors do?
It should take questions off the phone. Most people visiting a practice’s website are patients who want to know when you take calls, or whether you’re closed.
- Phone hours and opening hours at the top, with holiday closures and the stand-in practice when you’re closed.
- Links to booking, e-consultations and repeat prescriptions, where you offer them, for example through sundhed.dk or the Min Læge app.
- What to do out of hours: the out-of-hours doctor service (Lægevagten), 1813 in the Capital Region, and 112 in an emergency.
- Whether the practice takes new patients.
- Doctors and staff with names, and what the nurse handles, such as blood tests, vaccinations and check-ups.
Which pages does the website need?
Start with 6 pages. That’s enough for a customer to find the answer and get in touch, and you can always add more:
- Home: phone hours, opening hours, closure notices, and buttons for booking and e-consultations.
- Booking and e-consultations: how and when, with links to the systems you use.
- Services: examinations, vaccinations, blood tests and certificates, and what they cost when public health insurance doesn’t cover them.
- Out of hours: Lægevagten, 1813 and 112.
- About the practice: the doctors, nurses, secretaries and who does what.
- Contact: address, phone, parking and access.
How much does a website for doctors cost?
A website for doctors typically costs DKK 16,000–43,000 to have made by a freelancer and DKK 47,000–121,000 by a web agency, excluding VAT. Running costs come on top every year. Over three years, that adds up to DKK 33,000–101,000 with a freelancer and DKK 78,000–235,000 with an agency. Build it yourself in Striive and there’s no build fee: three years cost DKK 9,000–19,500.
| Freelancer | Web agency | Striive (you build it) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build | DKK 16,000–43,000 | DKK 47,000–121,000 | No build fee |
| Running per year, from year 2 | DKK 5,500–19,500 | DKK 10,000–38,000 | DKK 3,000–7,000 |
| First year in total | DKK 21,000–62,000 | DKK 57,000–159,000 | DKK 2,500–6,500 |
| Three years in total | DKK 33,000–101,000 | DKK 78,000–235,000 | DKK 9,000–19,500 |
All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain. Online booking and online payments aren’t in Striive yet, so Striive’s figures include a separate booking or shop tool until they arrive.
The expensive part of a practice website isn’t building it but keeping it current. Notices about holidays, stand-ins and vaccination season go up several times a year, and hosting, licences and a service agreement with an agency cost DKK 9,000–34,000 a year. If the secretary can change the notice on the front page, you avoid both the bill and the wait.
What do customers search for when they need a doctor?
Customers type what they need and where they live. Typical searches (in Danish, as they’re typed):
- læge [town]
- lægepraksis [town] nye patienter
- læge [town] telefontid
- kørekortattest pris [town]
- rejsevaccination [town]
- lægevagt [town]
Use the same words on your pages: the trade, the services and the towns and areas you cover. Give each page a title and a description that say it, and check how it looks in Google with our Google preview. More in how to get found on Google.
What makes customers choose you?
Trust. The customer doesn’t know you yet, so the website has to show you’re good at what you do:
- The doctors’ full names, so patients know who they’ll see and can look up the authorisation in the Danish Patient Safety Authority’s register.
- Up-to-date notices. A holiday closure from last summer makes patients doubt the rest of the page.
- Clear prices for what patients pay themselves, such as certificates and travel vaccinations.
- Photos of the entrance and the waiting room, so new patients can find their way.
- A short text on how you protect patient data, and where patients can write to you securely.
What rules apply to a website for doctors?
The same as for every business, and a few for your trade. Every business must show its name, address, email and CVR number on its website (Danish E-commerce Act §7), have a privacy notice when it collects personal data through, say, a contact form, and get consent with a cookie banner before setting cookies for analytics or marketing. Prices for consumers must include VAT. The full list is in website requirements for businesses.
- Doctors are authorised health professionals, and marketing your services falls under the Danish executive order on marketing of health services: factual and not misleading. The Danish Patient Safety Authority (Styrelsen for Patientsikkerhed) supervises it, so check the rules there before you write about treatments.
- Patients must not be asked to write health information in an ordinary contact form. Point them to e-consultations or secure email, and say by the form that it’s for practical questions only.
- If the practice offers cosmetic treatments on the side, stricter rules apply to them. Find the current rules with the Danish Patient Safety Authority.
What could the front page look like?
Here’s how the top of the front page could read. The headline says what you do and where; the text under it says why to pick you and what to do next:
“GP practice in Viborg. Phone hours every weekday, 8–10 am.”
Book an appointment or write an e-consultation through the Min Læge app or sundhed.dk. Out of hours, call Lægevagten, and in an emergency, 112.
How do you make a website for doctors with Striive?
You build it yourself, with AI to help. Plan on 10–21 hours for a site like this:
- Tell Striive about your business: what you do, where, and how customers reach you. Have an old website? Type its address, and Striive builds from it.
- The AI website builder builds your front page and up to four more pages, with text about what you actually do.
- Edit texts, prices and photos right on the page in the visual editor, or tell the AI assistant what to change.
- Add a contact form, and link to the booking system you use today. Online booking right in Striive is on the way.
- Connect your own domain, check the site on your phone, and publish.
Which mistakes should you avoid?
These turn up again and again on websites for doctors:
- The holiday closure isn’t on the front page, or last year’s is still there.
- The phone hours are hidden on a subpage.
- A contact form where patients can describe symptoms. It invites health information over an insecure channel.
- No links to e-consultations and booking, so everyone calls.
- The texts are written for colleagues. Write so a patient understands them.
Frequently asked questions
Only about practical things, such as the address or parking. Health information is sensitive personal data and belongs in the e-consultation or secure email. Say so clearly by the contact form.
Yes. In Striive several people can work on the same website, so the secretary can change phone hours and closure notices without calling a web designer. Read about team collaboration.
Yourself in Striive: about 10–21 hours, spread over a couple of days, if your texts and photos are ready. With a freelancer or an agency, plan on 2–6 weeks, because design, texts and corrections go back and forth.
Yes. In Striive you edit texts, prices and photos right on the page, or tell the AI assistant what to change. You don’t pay a web designer for every change.
