Website with booking: prices from freelancers, Wix and WordPress

A website with booking costs DKK 15,000–40,000 from a freelancer who sets up a booking system in WordPress, and DKK 45,000–115,000 from a web agency, excluding VAT. On a website builder, booking is kept for the pricier plans or an add-on: on Wix from the Core plan, at one.com in the Booking plan, and on Squarespace through Acuity Scheduling on top.

What does a website with booking cost?

A small website with booking costs DKK 20,000–60,000 in the first year from a freelancer and DKK 55,000–153,000 from an agency, excluding VAT. Over three years it’s DKK 32,000–99,000 and DKK 75,000–229,000, because the booking tool costs every year on top of ordinary running costs.

All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain. Online booking and online payments aren’t in Striive yet, so Striive’s figures include a separate booking or shop tool until they arrive.

What does booking in WordPress cost from a freelancer?

The booking part costs DKK 3,000–10,000 excluding VAT on top of the website. The freelancer installs a booking plugin or connects a booking service, sets up your services, opening hours and reminders, and tests it on a phone. Afterwards the plugin licence or booking service costs DKK 1,200–4,000 a year.

Remember that a booking plugin needs updating along with the rest of WordPress. If the site isn’t kept up to date, booking is often the first thing to stop working. More under WordPress alternative.

What should a booking system do?

It depends on how many bookings you have, and whether customers pay in advance. Check these things before you choose:

  • Number of bookings: some plans have a monthly cap. Count how many slots you have in a busy month.
  • Calendar: can bookings land in the calendar you already use?
  • Reminders: does the customer get a text or an email before the appointment? It means fewer no-shows.
  • Staff: can each person have their own calendar and their own services?
  • Payment: should the customer pay or leave a deposit when booking, and what does each payment cost?
  • Cancellations: can the customer move or cancel the appointment themselves?

How do you add booking to your website today?

If you already have a booking system, it takes half an hour to connect it to your website:

  1. Find your booking link in the booking system you use. Most have a link that opens your booking page directly.
  2. Put a clear button, such as “Book now”, at the top of the home page and on the contact page, and add it to the menu.
  3. Write next to the button what customers can book, how long it takes, and what it costs.
  4. If you don’t have a booking system, use a contact form where customers write which time suits them.
  5. Test the booking on a phone before you share the address.

What does booking cost on Striive?

Online booking isn’t in Striive yet, but it’s on the roadmap, and it will be part of the price, with no booking add-on. Bookings your customers pay for online carry a platform fee of 1.5% on top of Stripe’s own processing fee. Bookings that aren’t paid online carry no fee.

Until online booking arrives, use an enquiry form or link to the booking system you already have.
