A media library for your website. Every image in its place.

The media library is where all your website’s images, videos and fonts live. Sort them into folders, add alt text to many at once, and replace an image so every page shows the new one. Striive makes web-ready sizes for you.

Hundreds of photos. All called IMG_4821.jpg.

After a year, the images on most small business sites are one long, unsorted list. You want to swap last year’s team photo, but you can’t remember which pages use it. Delete the wrong file, and there’s a broken image on a page you’d forgotten about.

What is a media library?

A media library is one shared place for every file your website uses. Instead of uploading the same photo to each page, you upload it once and pick it from the library wherever you need it. Change it in the library, and the change follows.

How the media library works in Striive

  1. Drag your images into the library. An upload window shows how far each file has got.
  2. Striive checks every file: that it really is the type it claims to be, and that it isn’t too large. A broken or unsupported file stops in the library, not on your live site.
  3. Striive makes web-ready WebP versions in several widths, so phones get a small file and big screens a sharp one.
  4. Sort the files into folders by dragging, and fill in title, alt text, caption and tags.
  5. Pick images from the library in the editor or in your blog posts. They’re the same file everywhere.

What you can do in the media library

The library works like the folders on your computer, with a few extras for websites.

  • Folders and subfolders: products, team, the shop, the summer campaign.
  • Select several files at once to move them, add or remove tags, or give them all the same alt text.
  • Smart folders that find images missing alt text or a title, files without tags, files over 1 MB and recently replaced files.
  • Replace a file: the new version keeps the same address, so every page and entry using it shows the new one.
  • A trash can. Deleted files can be restored until you delete them permanently.
  • Search, and filter by file type.

Fast images without extra work

JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images get WebP versions from small to large, and the page asks for the size that fits the screen. Images that are already small are left as they are. GIFs keep their animation, and SVG files are cleaned of anything unsafe on upload.

What the media library doesn’t do

The library doesn’t show which pages use an image. That’s why replacing is the safe way to change a photo: every page follows automatically. If you permanently delete an image a page still uses, that page shows a broken image, so move it to the trash first, where you can still restore it.

Frequently asked questions

10 GB for your images, videos and other files, as part of the plan at DKK 311.25 a month including VAT (DKK 249 excluding VAT). Each extra 10 GB costs DKK 36.25 a month including VAT (DKK 29 excluding VAT), and you get warnings before your price changes.

Screen readers read it aloud to people who can’t see the image, and search engines use it to understand what the image shows. The “Missing alt text” smart folder shows you which images still need it.

Open the image in the library and replace the file. The new version keeps the same address, so every page and entry that used the old one shows the new one.

It goes to the trash first, and you can restore it. If you delete it permanently, pages still using it show a broken image, so replace it instead if you only want a new version.

Striive makes smaller web versions for you, but a sensible size to start with still helps. Our free image compressor shrinks photos for the web before you upload them.
