Website under DKK 5,000: what do you get in 2026?

A website under DKK 5,000 is possible on a website builder, where the money covers about two years with your own domain, but from a freelancer DKK 5,000 only buys 5–10 hours of work. At a web agency the money won’t stretch to a website. Here is what you can realistically get for it, and what comes on top afterwards.

What do you get for under DKK 5,000 from a freelancer?

You get 5–10 hours of work at an hourly rate of DKK 500–900 excluding VAT. That’s enough for a single page built on a ready-made template, if you supply the text, logo and photos yourself. Five pages, a blog or a booking setup fall outside the budget: a freelancer usually charges DKK 12,000–30,000 for a small five-page website.

So ask exactly what’s included. A quote under DKK 5,000 often only covers the setup, while the domain, hosting, updates and later changes are billed separately. More on what to expect from a freelance web designer.

Can a web agency build a website for under DKK 5,000?

No, not a finished website. DKK 5,000 is 3–5 hours at an agency charging DKK 900–1,400 an hour, and an agency’s own process of meetings, design and testing takes more than that. Five pages with a custom design cost DKK 35,000–90,000 excluding VAT.

An agency makes sense when you need a design built around your brand, several languages or links to other systems. When it pays off is under web agency.

How far does DKK 5,000 go with each option?

On a website builder DKK 5,000 goes furthest, because you pay for running the site, not for hours. Here is the budget with each option:

Is DKK 5,000 with or without VAT?

Always ask, because freelancers and agencies usually quote excluding VAT. DKK 5,000 excluding VAT is DKK 6,250 including VAT, and if you have DKK 5,000 including VAT to spend, that’s DKK 4,000 excluding VAT. If your business is VAT-registered you get the VAT back, so the figure without VAT is the one that counts for you.

Work out both figures with our VAT calculator before you compare two quotes.

What does a cheap website cost once running costs are counted?

More than DKK 5,000, if a freelancer builds it: even with a cheap build, hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement cost DKK 4,500–15,500 a year. Over three years a small website costs DKK 26,000–77,000 with a freelancer and DKK 5,500–7,500 on Striive, excluding VAT.

How do you get the most website for under DKK 5,000?

Spend the money on what you can’t do yourself, and your time on the rest:

  1. Decide what the website has to do. For most small businesses five pages are enough: home, services, about, prices and contact.
  2. Build it yourself on a website builder. Plan on 8–16 hours for five pages and 4–8 hours for one.
  3. Spend part of the budget on good photos of your own work. They do more for the impression than an expensive design.
  4. Buy the domain yourself, in the business’s name, so you can take it with you if you switch.
  5. Keep the rest of the budget for running costs, and choose a solution with no build fee and no lock-in.

Frequently asked questions

From a freelancer the hours set the price, and a single page from a template can stay under DKK 5,000, but running costs come on top every year. If you make it yourself on a website builder, the price is the subscription and 4–8 hours of your time.

Ask before you say yes. If the freelancer builds in WordPress you can usually edit text yourself, but new pages and design changes often cost hours. On a website builder you edit everything yourself. More in cheap website.

Yes, but it doesn’t have your own domain and usually shows the builder’s ads. What that means for a business is under free website.

Yes. If you have a website today, Striive can build a new one from its address with site import. Text, images and contact details come across. Blog posts, a web shop and a booking system don’t.
