Professional website: 10 things that make it trustworthy
A professional website is less about the price than about ten concrete things, and most of them cost nothing: your own domain at DKK 110–260 a year, HTTPS, fast pages, a mobile-friendly layout, your own photos, clear texts, contact details, a CVR number, a cookie banner and a contact form. An agency charges DKK 35,000–90,000 excluding VAT to deliver them. A website builder can deliver all of them for a monthly price.
What makes a website look professional?
It’s the details customers notice: a real address, a page without warnings and content that is clearly about you. Here is the checklist with the price of each point:
| Point | Why it counts | Price, excl. VAT | In Striive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your own domain | Customers remember and trust yourbusiness.dk. | DKK 110–260 a year | Included: connected with two DNS records |
| HTTPS | Without HTTPS, the browser shows “Not secure” by the address. | Free on most modern platforms | Included: the certificate is sorted automatically |
| Fast pages | A page that lags loses visitors, especially on phones. | Part of the platform, or hours of optimisation | Included: plain HTML and CSS |
| Mobile-friendly layout | Many customers find you on their phone. | Part of every modern template | Included |
| Your own photos | Stock photos look like everyone else’s. | DKK 0 with your phone. A photographer costs extra. | Included: media library with 10 GB of storage |
| Clear texts | Visitors should see at once what you do. | Your time, or DKK 1,000–2,500 per page from a freelancer | Included: AI writes the first draft |
| Contact details | Phone, email and address should be easy to find. | DKK 0 | Included: company details for the footer and contact page |
| CVR number | It shows the business is registered. | DKK 0 | Included: add it to the footer |
| Cookie banner | Required if you use analytics, marketing or embedded videos. | A separate consent service costs extra | Included: built in |
| Contact form | Some customers would rather write than call. | Part of most builders, hours from a freelancer | Included: spam-filtered and saved in your admin |
As a business, you generally have to give your name, address, email and CVR number on your website. Check the rules with the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen), and read more in website requirements.
What does a professional website cost?
A professional eight-page website costs DKK 15,000–38,000 from a freelancer and DKK 42,000–108,000 from an agency to build, excluding VAT. Over three years that becomes DKK 29,000–84,000 and DKK 69,000–210,000. On a website builder there’s no build fee, and the number of pages doesn’t change the price.
| Freelancer | Web agency | Striive (you build it) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build | DKK 15,000–38,000 | DKK 42,000–108,000 | No build fee |
| Running per year, from year 2 | DKK 4,500–15,500 | DKK 9,000–34,000 | DKK 2,000–3,000 |
| First year in total | DKK 19,000–53,000 | DKK 51,000–142,000 | DKK 1,500–2,500 |
| Three years in total | DKK 29,000–84,000 | DKK 69,000–210,000 | DKK 5,500–7,500 |
All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain.
Which mistakes make a website look unprofessional?
Most mistakes are about content that has gone stale, not design. These are the ones customers see most:
- Old prices, opening hours or a news post from years ago.
- A Gmail or Hotmail address instead of one on your own domain. Email on your own domain comes from an email provider.
- Stock photos of smiling people who don’t work for you.
- Placeholder text or empty pages that were never finished.
- Buttons and text too small for a thumb on a phone.
- An address without HTTPS, so the browser warns visitors.
Does a professional website need a web agency?
No. You can get all ten points on the checklist on a website builder. An agency gives you a bespoke design, strategy and help with bigger integrations, and that can be worth the money for a larger business. But it isn’t what makes a small business’s website trustworthy. See what you get for the money in web agency.
How do you make your website professional, step by step?
Take the points in this order, so the most important come first:
- Buy the domain in the business’s name and connect it, so the address is yourbusiness.dk with HTTPS.
- Say in one sentence at the top of the front page what you do, and where.
- Swap stock photos for your own photos of your work, premises and staff.
- Put phone, email, address and CVR number in the footer, so they’re on every page.
- Check that prices and opening hours are the ones that apply today.
- Open the site on your own phone, and fix anything hard to read or tap.
- Turn the cookie banner on if you use analytics, pixels or embedded videos.
How do you check whether your website looks professional?
Look at it the way a new customer does: in Google, when it’s shared, and on a phone. Three of our free tools help. The SERP preview shows how your page looks in Google’s results, the social share preview shows how a link looks on Facebook and LinkedIn, and the cookie banner checker tells you whether you need a banner.
Frequently asked questions
DKK 12,000–30,000 from a freelancer and DKK 35,000–90,000 from an agency for five pages, excluding VAT. Work out your own figure in our website cost calculator.
Yes. What customers judge is the domain, the photos, the texts and whether the site works on a phone, not which system it was built in.
As a rule, yes, for businesses. Check the rules with the Danish Business Authority, and see website requirements.
No. Striive doesn’t offer email. Set up mailboxes with your domain provider or an email provider. That works fine alongside a Striive website on the same domain.
