Website for lawyers: price, pages and example

A website for lawyers has to say which cases you take, what it costs to get started, and how clients get a first conversation, written so a layperson understands it. Here are the pages, the price, the rules and an example front page.

What should a website for lawyers do?

It has to make getting in touch feel safe. Clients are often in the middle of something hard, a divorce, a death or a dispute, and want to know whether you’re the right one before they call.

  • Your practice areas one by one, such as family law, inheritance, property, business and employment law.
  • Prices: an hourly rate and fixed prices for standard jobs like wills, prenuptial agreements and house purchases.
  • Who is a lawyer (advokat), an assistant attorney or a legal adviser, with name and photo.
  • A short route to first contact: a phone number and a form that only asks for what’s needed.
  • Whether you work with legal expenses insurance or help apply for free legal aid, if you do.

Which pages does the website need?

Start with 6 pages. That’s enough for a customer to find the answer and get in touch, and you can always add more:

  1. Home: which cases you take, for whom, and how to get in touch.
  2. Practice areas: one page per area, written from the questions clients ask.
  3. Prices: hourly rate, fixed prices and what a first meeting costs.
  4. Insights: short articles on the questions you get again and again.
  5. About us: the lawyers, their areas and experience.
  6. Contact: phone, email, the office address and a short form.

How much does a website for lawyers cost?

A website for lawyers typically costs DKK 13,000–33,000 to have made by a freelancer and DKK 37,000–96,000 by a web agency, excluding VAT. Running costs come on top every year. Over three years, that adds up to DKK 27,000–79,000 with a freelancer and DKK 64,000–198,000 with an agency. Build it yourself in Striive and there’s no build fee: three years cost DKK 5,500–7,500.

All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain.

On a lawyer’s website, the pages about each practice area are what bring in clients. With ten practice areas, that’s five pages more than an agency’s base package, and they typically cost DKK 12,000–30,000 extra excl. VAT. In Striive you add more pages yourself with no bill per page, so each area can have its own.

What do customers search for when they need a lawyer?

Customers type what they need and where they live. Typical searches (in Danish, as they’re typed):

  • advokat [town]
  • skilsmisseadvokat [town]
  • advokat arv og testamente [town]
  • boligadvokat [town]
  • advokat ansættelsesret
  • advokat pris testamente
  • gratis advokathjælp [town]

Use the same words on your pages: the trade, the services and the towns and areas you cover. Give each page a title and a description that say it, and check how it looks in Google with our Google preview. More in how to get found on Google.

What makes customers choose you?

Trust. The customer doesn’t know you yet, so the website has to show you’re good at what you do:

  • Names and photos of the lawyers, and which areas each one works in.
  • Fixed prices for standard jobs. Many clients are afraid of an open-ended bill.
  • Plain text without legal jargon, which shows you can explain things.
  • Membership of the Danish Bar and Law Society (Advokatsamfundet), and cover by liability insurance and a guarantee scheme.
  • Words from clients, if they’ve agreed to you using them.

What rules apply to a website for lawyers?

The same as for every business, and a few for your trade. Every business must show its name, address, email and CVR number on its website (Danish E-commerce Act §7), have a privacy notice when it collects personal data through, say, a contact form, and get consent with a cookie banner before setting cookies for analytics or marketing. Prices for consumers must include VAT. The full list is in website requirements for businesses.

  • The title “advokat” is reserved for lawyers admitted to practise. Say clearly who in the firm is an advokat, and who is an assistant attorney or a legal adviser.
  • Lawyers must follow good professional conduct and the rules of the Danish Bar and Law Society, also in their marketing, which must not be misleading, for example. Check the professional conduct rules with Advokatsamfundet before you write about results or compare yourself with others.
  • Many lawyers state on their website their liability insurance, guarantee scheme and where clients can complain. Check with Advokatsamfundet what you must state, and where.
  • Private clients must see prices including VAT. Say whether a first conversation is free, and what happens if the case takes longer.

What could the front page look like?

Here’s how the top of the front page could read. The headline says what you do and where; the text under it says why to pick you and what to do next:

“Lawyer in Viborg. Family law, inheritance and property, explained in plain Danish.”

We help with wills, prenuptial agreements, divorce and buying a house. See our fixed prices, or call 12 34 56 78 for a first chat about your case.

How do you make a website for lawyers with Striive?

You build it yourself, with AI to help. Plan on 9–18 hours for a site like this:

  1. Tell Striive about your business: what you do, where, and how customers reach you. Have an old website? Type its address, and Striive builds from it.
  2. The AI website builder builds your front page and up to four more pages, with text about what you actually do.
  3. Edit texts, prices and photos right on the page in the visual editor, or tell the AI assistant what to change.
  4. Add a contact form, so enquiries land in your inbox.
  5. Connect your own domain, check the site on your phone, and publish.

Which mistakes should you avoid?

These turn up again and again on websites for lawyers:

  • The practice areas are a list with no text, so Google can’t see what you help with.
  • The site is written for other lawyers, not for the client who has to read it.
  • The contact form asks the client to describe the whole case and send documents. Ask for a short description and a phone number, and take the rest in a conversation.
  • No prices, not even for a will.
  • Old articles about rules that have changed since.

Frequently asked questions

Lawyers must follow good professional conduct and the rules of the Danish Bar and Law Society, and marketing must not be misleading. Read the rules at Advokatsamfundet before you write about cases you’ve won or compare yourself with other lawyers.

Ask them not to. Use the contact form for name, phone and a short description, and take the confidential details in a conversation or through the secure channel you use with clients. The site runs on HTTPS, but it isn’t a client portal.

Yourself in Striive: about 9–18 hours, spread over a couple of days, if your texts and photos are ready. With a freelancer or an agency, plan on 2–6 weeks, because design, texts and corrections go back and forth.

Yes. In Striive you edit texts, prices and photos right on the page, or tell the AI assistant what to change. You don’t pay a web designer for every change.
