Website for a new business or start-up: price and pages

A website for a new business doesn’t need to be big: three pages, your own domain and your CVR number are enough to look credible and get the first customers to write. Here are the pages, the price, the rules and an example front page.

What should a website for a new business do?

It has to make you visible and credible while you’re still finding out what sells. So it should be cheap to start and easy to change when your services and prices move.

  • One sentence on what you offer, and to whom.
  • Your own domain, such as yourbusiness.dk, so website and email look like a real business.
  • The business’s name, address, email and CVR number.
  • A contact form, so the first enquiries land in your inbox.
  • Room to grow: more pages, a blog or new services when you’re ready.

Which pages does the website need?

Start with 3 pages. That’s enough for a customer to find the answer and get in touch, and you can always add more:

  1. Home: what you offer, to whom, and how to get in touch.
  2. Services and prices: what you sell now, and what it costs.
  3. About and contact: who you are, CVR number, address and a form.

How much does a website for a new business cost?

A website for a new business typically costs DKK 12,000–30,000 to have made by a freelancer and DKK 35,000–90,000 by a web agency, excluding VAT. Running costs come on top every year. Over three years, that adds up to DKK 26,000–77,000 with a freelancer and DKK 62,000–192,000 with an agency. Build it yourself in Striive and there’s no build fee: three years cost DKK 5,500–7,500.

All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain.

The first year is when a start-up feels the price. With a freelancer, the first year costs DKK 16,000–46,000 including running costs, excl. VAT. In Striive the first year costs DKK 1,500–2,500 excl. VAT, with the domain. The difference can go on what brings in the first customers, and you change the site yourself as the business changes.

What do customers search for when they need what you sell?

Customers type what they need and where they live. Typical searches (in Danish, as they’re typed):

  • [ydelse] [town]
  • [fag] [town]
  • ny [fag] [town]
  • [ydelse] pris
  • [produkt] lokalt
  • nystartet [fag] [town]

Use the same words on your pages: the trade, the services and the towns and areas you cover. Give each page a title and a description that say it, and check how it looks in Google with our Google preview. More in how to get found on Google.

What makes customers choose you?

Trust. The customer doesn’t know you yet, so the website has to show you’re good at what you do:

  • A real photo of you and a short story of why you started.
  • Your experience from before, such as previous jobs or training, while you don’t have many customers yet.
  • The first testimonials as soon as you have them, even from a single customer.
  • Your own domain and CVR number, so customers can see the business is real.
  • Clear prices. A new business without prices looks like one that doesn’t know what it charges.

What rules apply to a website for a new business?

The same as for every business, and a few for your trade. Every business must show its name, address, email and CVR number on its website (Danish E-commerce Act §7), have a privacy notice when it collects personal data through, say, a contact form, and get consent with a cookie banner before setting cookies for analytics or marketing. Prices for consumers must include VAT. The full list is in website requirements for businesses.

  • If you don’t have a CVR number yet, get one at virk.dk before the website goes live. Registering a sole proprietorship costs nothing.
  • Check the name is free: search the CVR register, check the domain with a domain provider, and search the trademark register at the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (Patent- og Varemærkestyrelsen), so you don’t build your name on one that belongs to someone else.

What could the front page look like?

Here’s how the top of the front page could read. The headline says what you do and where; the text under it says why to pick you and what to do next:

“New bookkeeper in Viborg. A fixed monthly price for small businesses.”

I have ten years’ experience from an accounting firm and have now gone solo. I handle bookkeeping, VAT and payroll for small businesses. Write to me, and we’ll talk about what you need.

How do you make a website for a new business with Striive?

You build it yourself, with AI to help. Plan on 6–12 hours for a site like this:

  1. Tell Striive about your business: what you do, where, and how customers reach you. Have an old website? Type its address, and Striive builds from it.
  2. The AI website builder builds your front page and up to four more pages, with text about what you actually do.
  3. Edit texts, prices and photos right on the page in the visual editor, or tell the AI assistant what to change.
  4. Add a contact form, so enquiries land in your inbox.
  5. Connect your own domain, check the site on your phone, and publish.

Which mistakes should you avoid?

These turn up again and again on websites for new businesses:

  • You spend DKK 30,000 on a website before you know what customers will buy.
  • The site sits on a free address with the provider’s name in it, instead of your own domain.
  • The site says “coming soon” for months.
  • No prices, because you haven’t decided yet. Show a starting price and change it later.
  • There’s no CVR number or address, because the business “has only just started”.

Frequently asked questions

As soon as you have a name, a CVR number and something to sell. Three simple pages beat none, and you can build on as you get to know your customers. See how in our guide to making a website.

Buy it from a domain provider. A .dk domain typically costs DKK 0–500 a year excl. VAT. You connect it to Striive with two DNS records, and HTTPS comes automatically. See how in own domain.

Build it yourself with a tool that has no build fee and no lock-in, so you can stop if the business doesn’t take off. Compare the options in cheap website, and do the sums with our website cost calculator.

Yourself in Striive: about 6–12 hours, spread over a couple of days, if your texts and photos are ready. With a freelancer or an agency, plan on 2–6 weeks, because design, texts and corrections go back and forth.

Yes. In Striive you edit texts, prices and photos right on the page, or tell the AI assistant what to change. You don’t pay a web designer for every change.
