Squarespace alternative: 7 options for Danish businesses
A good Squarespace alternative for a Danish business is a website builder with prices in kroner, servers in the EU and everything a small business needs included in the price. Squarespace is strong on design, but its editor isn’t available in Danish, and Basic cost USD 19 a month billed yearly, plus taxes, when we read it on 2026-09-23. What does Squarespace cost?
Squarespace costs from USD 19 a month for Basic, billed a year at a time, or USD 25 billed month by month. Taxes are added on top, and prices are in dollars, also from Denmark. The figures were read on 2026-09-23.
| Squarespace plan | Per month, billed yearly | Per month, billed monthly | Fee on shop sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | USD 19 | USD 25 | 2% |
| Core | USD 29 | USD 39 | 0% |
| Plus | USD 49 | USD 65 | 0% |
| Advanced | USD 99 | USD 139 | 0% |
On top come card fees and 7% on courses and memberships on Basic. Booking is a separate subscription, Acuity Scheduling, from USD 20 a month billed monthly, and newsletters from USD 8 a month. Convert the amount with our VAT calculator once you know it in kroner.
What does Squarespace lack for a Danish business?
Squarespace lacks three things that matter to a small Danish business:
- A Danish editor. Danish can be chosen as the language of the website itself, the text your visitors see, but not in the editor you work in.
- Prices in kroner. You pay in dollars plus taxes, so the amount moves with the exchange rate.
- Servers in the EU. Squarespace stores data in data centres in the United States.
On the other hand, Squarespace has a built-in cookie banner and a shop already on Basic, so if you need to sell products today, that’s a real plus.
How does Squarespace compare with Striive?
Squarespace has more features today, a shop and paid content above all. Striive has prices in kroner, EU hosting and unlimited team members from the start.
| Squarespace (Basic) | Striive | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | USD 19 a month billed yearly, plus taxes | DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT |
| Team members | 2 on Basic | Unlimited |
| Cookie banner | Yes, built in | Yes, built in |
| AI | 10 AI credits on Basic, once | DKK 40 a month + DKK 175 at signup |
| Booking | A separate subscription from USD 20 a month | Planned, in the price with no add-on; paid bookings carry the 1.5% fee |
| Payments and shop | Yes; a 2% fee on shop sales on Basic | Planned, 1.5% platform fee on top of Stripe’s own fee; refunded with the payment |
| Hosting | United States | EU (Stockholm) |
| Headquarters | United States (New York) | Denmark (Viborg) |
The Squarespace figures were read on 2026-09-23. “Planned” means the feature isn’t in Striive today; see online booking, online payments and the roadmap.
When is Squarespace the right choice?
Squarespace suits you better than Striive if you need any of these today:
- A shop or paid content right on the website.
- A portfolio where the template’s design matters most, and you’re fine with an English editor.
- Courses or memberships you sell on the website.
If you just need a website that says what you do and gets customers to write or call, you pay for features you don’t use.
How do you move away from Squarespace?
You move away from Squarespace by building the new website first and moving the domain last:
- Find out where your domain was bought. If you bought it through Squarespace, check Squarespace’s help on how to transfer it or change its DNS.
- Give Striive the address of your Squarespace website with move your website. Striive reads the public pages, so you don’t need to export anything.
- Check texts, photos and prices. A shop, blog posts, member areas and booking don’t come along.
- Set up a contact form and the cookie banner, and check them with our cookie banner checker.
- Connect the domain with two DNS records. HTTPS is set up automatically.
- Cancel Squarespace once the new website is running. If you pay yearly, time the switch close to your renewal.
Frequently asked questions
Partly. You can choose Danish as the language of the website itself, so buttons and fixed text are in Danish for your visitors. The editor you work in isn’t available in Danish.
We couldn’t confirm it. Squarespace showed prices in dollars, also from Denmark, on 2026-09-23, with taxes on top. Basic cost USD 19 a month billed yearly.
For the first year, one.com is cheapest at DKK 948 for Portfolio, but the price rises to DKK 1428 a year afterwards. Hostinger is cheaper per month, but only if you pay 48 months upfront.
No. Striive rebuilds your pages from the address, but a shop, blog posts and member areas don’t come along. Online payments are planned in Striive; until then, you can link to a payment page you already have.
