Web agencies in Copenhagen: websites for small businesses, prices

Looking for web agencies in Copenhagen? The choice runs from one-person studios to large agencies, and whether the site is built in WordPress or Webflow mostly decides what you pay every year afterwards. Here are the prices, how to choose, and how to get found locally.

How much does a website from a web agency in Copenhagen cost?

A web agency in Copenhagen typically charges DKK 35,000–90,000 for a five-page website for a small business, and a freelancer DKK 12,000–30,000, excluding VAT. The price depends more on how much design and copy the agency does from scratch than on the postcode. Running costs come on top every year, so compare the price over three years:

All amounts exclude VAT and come from our website cost calculator, built on Danish hourly rates: about DKK 500–900 an hour for freelancers and DKK 900–1,400 for agencies. Running costs are hosting, a domain, licences and a service agreement. Striive is DKK 99 a month incl. VAT for the first 4 months, then DKK 249 a month incl. VAT, plus your domain.

Agency, freelancer or yourself: what suits a small business in Copenhagen?

It depends on your budget, and whether you want to edit the website yourself afterwards:

  • A web agency, if you need a custom design, links to other systems or a web shop with many products, and have DKK 35,000 or more to spend.
  • A freelance web designer, if you want someone else to build a simple site from a template and don’t mind paying for changes later.
  • A website builder like Striive, if you want a professional website with no build fee and to edit texts, prices and photos yourself whenever you need to.

How do you choose a web agency in Copenhagen?

Ask everyone who quotes the same questions, so you can compare:

  1. Ask for a fixed price in writing, excluding and including VAT, and what running costs and a service agreement cost a year.
  2. Ask who owns the domain, the website and the texts if you stop working together.
  3. Ask whether you can edit texts and photos yourself, or whether every change costs hours.
  4. Ask for three websites they made for businesses like yours, ideally in Copenhagen or nearby, and call one of the customers.
  5. Check that their own website is fast on a phone and has a cookie banner, a privacy notice and a CVR number.

What do customers in Copenhagen search for?

Local customers type the trade and the place. Typical searches (in Danish, as they’re typed):

  • webbureau København
  • webdesigner København
  • WordPress bureau København
  • frisør Nørrebro
  • elektriker Valby
  • tømrer Amager
  • café Vesterbro
  • fysioterapeut Østerbro

Use the same words on your pages. If you also cover Nørrebro, Vesterbro, Østerbro, Amager, Valby, Frederiksberg, Nordvest, Vanløse, name them in the text and, where it fits, in the page title. Google can’t guess where you’ll drive to.

How do you get found on Google in Copenhagen?

Local visibility comes down to three things: your Google Business Profile, the words on your website and reviews.

  1. Create a free Google Business Profile with your address, opening hours, photos and a link to your website.
  2. Give every service its own page with the trade and the place in its title, and check it in our Google preview.
  3. Add structured data about your business with our free LocalBusiness tool.
  4. Ask happy customers for a Google review, and answer every one.

In Copenhagen the neighbourhood beats the city: a customer on Amager searches for “frisør Amager”, not the whole city. Put your neighbourhood in the title, such as “Frisør på Vesterbro”, and remember that Frederiksberg is a municipality of its own, so name it separately if you cover it too.

The whole way through in how to get found on Google.

What are small businesses in Copenhagen like?

Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, and it has the most web agencies to choose from. They range from one-person studios and freelancers to large agencies with many staff. A freelancer typically charges DKK 12,000–30,000 for five pages and an agency DKK 35,000–90,000, excluding VAT. At the large agencies a small business website is a small job, so ask whether they take projects your size, and who will actually do the work.

Most quotes are built on WordPress or Webflow. WordPress is open source and free in itself, but you pay for hosting, often for a theme and some plugins, and someone has to keep it all updated. Webflow is a hosted design tool: the agency designs the site in Webflow, and it runs on Webflow’s servers on a site plan, a monthly subscription that Webflow bills in US dollars on top of the agency’s invoice. Both can make good websites; the difference is who you depend on afterwards. More in WordPress alternative.

The city’s small businesses are many cafés, shops, clinics, hairdressers, tradespeople and independent consultants, and all of them write “København” on their site. So the one who names their neighbourhood wins.

Frequently asked questions

Building it costs DKK 35,000–90,000 at an agency and DKK 12,000–30,000 from a freelancer for five pages, excluding VAT, and the price depends more on the hours than on the platform. The difference comes afterwards: hosting, theme, plugins and updates for WordPress, or Webflow’s site plan in dollars. Ask for them in writing, and work out the price over three years in our cost calculator.

Choose WordPress if you want a free choice of host and supplier; many agencies and freelancers can take over a WordPress site, but plugins and the theme need updating all the time. Choose Webflow if your agency designs in it and you want design and hosting in one place; in return you are tied to Webflow’s platform, and fewer people can take the site over. If you’d rather look after neither, see the AI website builder.

You. Ask the agency to set up the hosting, the Webflow account and the domain in your business’s name, and give them access as a user. Then you can change agency without moving the website first.

No. Most of the work happens over email and video calls, wherever the agency is. What matters is that they know your trade, give a fixed price and let you own the domain and the content. Build it yourself on a website builder, and the question goes away.
